FAQ

WHAT DOES THE INSTALLATION COMPRISE OF AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
The installation consists of a neutral space filled with hanging, written key rings. The audience is requested to Please take one. There is a table and stools in the space with blank key rings and labels for the audience to then participate as the author. They are asked to write a thought that they have throughout the day, which they wouldn’t normally say out loud. They can then take a key ring they feel they most relate to and replace it with their own thought.

HOW MUCH DOES A KEYRING COST?
Nothing! They are free to take throughout the exhibition.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO HOST THE EXHIBITION?
There is a one off installation fee, an invigilation fee and the cost of the key rings. These prices are dependent on the duration of the exhibition and the amount of key rings required.
For enquiries see the contact section.

HOW CAN THE EXHIBITION BE USED AS A DISABILITY AWARENESS TOOL?
The Disability Discrimination Act and the Disability Equality Duty cover any disability/difficulty that may create a barrier to learning. People too readily assume that the disability has to be visible. Hidden disabilities such as Asperger’s, dyslexia, mental health concerns, ADHD all pose problems for students along with more obvious physical disabilities. These problems are often related to: feeling isolated, overwhelmed and confused by their environment, communicating with others, feelings of frustration, loneliness and anger. It can also be tied up with the bully and being bullied. The exhibition gives students the opportunity to voice these inner concerns and exchange thoughts – in particular finding strangers who understand their insecurities – which can then lead to feelings of inclusion rather than exclusion and makes it clear that in the end, with or without a disability, people are equal.

HOW DOES THE INSTALLATION ACCOMODATE PEOPLE WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENT?
The installation is invigilated by an experienced educator who is on hand to offer assistance with reading and scribing. Sound recording facilities are also available to maintain anonymity and a sense of privacy, these will then be transferred to key rings to be included in future exhibitions.
NB: The Keyring Exhibition aims to offer recordable key rings in the future, for those who prefer not to write.

WHAT PLACES WOULD THE KEYRING EXHIBITION BE SUITABLE FOR?
Any place with lots of people. Previous exhibitions have been held in gallery spaces, educational institutes and public places.

WHAT AGE GROUP IS THE EXHIBITION SUITABLE FOR?
The exhibition functions as an all inclusive event, allowing people to write any thought to be included for display, therefore wherever possible the key rings will not be censored. However under certain circumstances the key rings on display can be censored and the instructions can request that no insulting language be used. This is usually necessary if exhibiting in schools.

CAN I TAKE MY OWN KEY RING?
Preferably not, the idea is that you pass your thought on to see if someone else thinks the same thought or can relate to your statement in some way.

WHAT HAPPENS IF ALL THE KEY RINGS HAVE GONE?
When all of the empty key rings have been used, labels will still be available for submission to the next exhibition.

WHAT HAPPENS IF NO ONE TAKES MY KEY RING?
It will be transferred to next exhibition, in the next location along the tour.
